" Objective - Form - Material " 6-10.08.2009

Me and my Dear friends Shearlie form Australia and Anni from Estonia and our OPENING PARTY at the Castle Gallery in Tokyo University of Arts.

And here some words from the artists about their works:

Anni Kagovere : Metalcraft
Our minds are full of strange devices and curiosities which try to emerge from the subconscious through reoccurring shapes and symbols.

When drawing absentmindedly, certain patterns tend to appear again and again.

I wish to explore that unknown world as a scientist looking for new discoveries and record what I find.

Some of these abstract thoughts seem to be on the verge of having a form and becoming objects.

I do my best to let them fill that potential.

Shirley Cho : Sculpture
I am always trying to control the material in my work to create the forms that I want. Each new work begins with written ideas, which are then visualised into drawings. These drawings then become the forms that are created. This is the pattern in which I always seem to make.

In this work I fabricated a series of identical shapes, which were then tested to see how much pressure could be applied to each form until it tore open. It was in this process of pressing that I had no control over the final forms, as each was dependent on which position it was pressed
and the strength of the welds. This type of unpredictable process is a challenge to me but through such challenges I am learning to allow a material to perform to its natural potential.

Katarzyna Brzezińska : Ceramics
Since beginning of studying fine arts I am interested in nature and culture, connection and relation between them and as well as the simplicity of signs - answers created by culture and the signs appearing also in nature…, symbols which always are saying us something …

I'm also looking for the answers about the simple feelings occurring inside me, which are signs of being a human and which I everyday learn to read and understand. These inner signs, I try to connect with surroundings where I am and give it a shape in ceramic.

For example my last works were made thinking about wave of life and death, inner dance and music. It appears in the simple shape of wavy line..."Dance of the line...without end nor beginning”.

On the other hand, the line reminds me of neon-signs on buildings. All the objects have also architectural elements inside…For me everything is connected and influenced by everything…

And I love colours… and line….

…But the works are rather to be felt and touched than to understand…See them the way you want and maybe you will find your own interpretation.
